Profile Modern production machines are highly complex mechatronic systems whose performance is based on the optimal interaction among finelytuned solutions in mechanics, drive and control engineering as well as implementation software. We develop methods and technical components for the realisation and operation of intelligent production machines. Beyond the design and optimisation of production machines, technology-specific control applications and integration of information technology and machines stand at the forefront of our work. Approach Our basic approach is holistic in nature: we strive for integrated solutions. In order to find the optimal structural shape of a production machine, we consider alternatives to conventional manufacturing processes as well as the various construction principles and available materials. The qualities of the product to be produced by the machine largely determine the specific solution to be found. The main goal is to use the integration of intelligent control, self-monitoring, and diagnostic features to increase processing capacity and availability of production machines. Modern, PCbased control systems make it possible to integrate these technological functions on a real-time basis. Machining precision has also increased by the implementation of machine and process- specific control applications. Our intelligent solutions are based on models of machine and process behaviour, which show their interaction. Support systems which are integrated into control mechanisms shorten the initialisation and set-up phases of machines. R&D Topics Modern machine concepts increasingly involve flexible and application-specific adjustable axle arrangements. Intelligent compensation algorithms can be applied to obtain better precision. Specific kinematic transformation and a number of special force-position controllers have therefore been developed and implemented. In production systems, various automation components, possibly from several different manufacturers are used for a range of various sub-processes. Hence, it is necessary to develop concepts which make communication among components and the meta-system possible. Our aim is to provide continuous and quick access to production system data via the integration into local networks and by providing remote connections for service purposes. In addition to developing algorithms for on-line monitoring and diagnosis of machines, we specialise in remote services for maintenance support. We not only have improved established concepts in teleservice, we also design and realise innovative remote on-line services. Among these are tailored services for condition-based maintenance support for machines as well as qualification and training of personnel. Such services assist the customer in optimising his production. We develop and design modern, Internet-based IT platforms to provide e-services of this kind. Contact: |
